Chief Secretary reviews activities under ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’

Srinagar: Chief Secretary Dr Arun Kumar Mehta today chaired a meeting to review various events and activities organized under AzadikaAmritMahotsav to celebrate 75 years of India’s independence.

The administrative secretaries of the Departments of Interior, General Administration, Culture and Youth and Sports Services as well as the Director of the Department of Information and Public Relations and the officials concerned participated in the meeting.

The chief secretary asked the culture department to organize events emphasizing the glorious history and culture of Jammu and Kashmir with appropriate technological and digital intervention.

The Department was asked to design a calendar of 75 events each to be organized under 75 different activities until August 15, 2022, in all panchayats, blocks and neighborhoods in the territory of the Union.

Events will include mega cultural shows, Sufi and folk festivals, sports festivals, heritage events, and literary seminars and symposia.

The tourism department has been invited to hold a 3-month tourism festival from November to January to showcase various tourist attractions and destinations in Jammu and Kashmir, while simultaneously holding winter festivals in Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonamarg and Patnitop .

The chief secretary advised the department to put special emphasis on promoting the art and culture of J&K by holding various exhibitions at the Dogra Art Museum, the Kashmir Art Museum, the Mubarak Mandi Complex and in Kala Kendra.

Dr Mehta led the Department of Youth Services and Sports to organize sports activities in all schools, colleges, neighborhoods and panchayats. He further urged the Department to undertake water conservation activities through large-scale youth participation.

In addition, the departments of school education and higher education were invited to organize various commemoration activities to raise awareness of movements and struggles for freedom; stories of unsung heroes and freedom fighters; the key stages in the struggle for freedom; and the ideas that inspired the struggle for independence.
