United States Identifies First Omicron Variant Case Of COVID-19, KERA reports. Authorities say the first U.S. case of the omicron variant was discovered in California, detected in a person recently returned from South Africa. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is tightening US testing rules for travelers arriving from overseas, including requiring all travelers to be tested within one day of boarding a flight to the United States. Post-arrival testing is also being considered.

Federal judge blocks Biden’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate for healthcare workers, The Texas Tribe reports. After Texas and other states challenged the order, the vaccination mandate for healthcare workers was barred from going into effect nationwide next week. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton called the mandate “an unprecedented federal vaccine executive” on healthcare workers.

Dallas Cowboy’s COVID-19 List Grows, The Dallas Morning News reports. Coach Mike McCarthy has taken on a new mindset towards COVID after breaking through in his team. “Like anything, I think, playing top of the page when it comes to safety, you have to do it,” McCarthy said. At least nine players and coaches will not be in New Orleans when Dallas faces the Saints on Thursday.
