IBSF and ACBS announce schedule of activities – Journal

KARACHI: World and regional felt play bodies have announced their schedule of activities starting early next month.

According to information available here, Qatar will host the three main events on the International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF) and Asian Confederation of Billiard Sports (ACBS) calendars.

The IBSF U-21 Men’s Snooker Championship will take place in Doha from March 1-5. This will be followed by the IBSF Men’s Snooker Championship from March 6-11.

The 37th Asian Men’s Snooker Championship is scheduled for the same venue from March 12-16.

IBSF and Asian 6-Reds and Team Events will be hosted by the United Arab Emirates in June.

Snooker will feature at the World Games to be held in Birmingham, USA in July.

The IBSF U-16, U-18 and U-21 competitions will take place in Romania in July-August.

The curtains fall on the international calendar with Turkey hosting the IBSF Men’s, Women’s and Masters Championships in October-November.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Federation (PBSF) has announced the names of four cueists who will compete in Doha.

Veteran cueist Mohammad Asif, who won his second world crown in Antalya, will defend his title.

National champion Mohammad Sajjad, runner-up Ahsan Ramzan and outgoing national under-21 champion Shaikh Mohammad Mudassir will be the other three members of the squad.

Sajjad and Ahsan will compete in the IBSF and ACBS events while the duo of Ahsan and Mudassir will represent the country in the U-21 Championship.

The PBSF said on Friday that a short-term camp has started in Lahore and will continue until February 23.

There is a lull as nothing has been heard from the PBSF in the last four months regarding national events.

It is pertinent to mention that Mohammad Sajjad won the 46th National Snooker Championship by beating Ahsan Ramzan 7-6 in the final on October 11 last year.
