Shaheen shortlisted in five categories for PCB Awards – Newspaper


LAHORE: Pakistan’s rhythm spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi has been shortlisted in five categories for the 2021 PCB Awards.

The winners will be announced Thursday on a virtual digital broadcast.

21-year-old left-hand owner Shaheen was nominated in the Hitting Performance of the Year, T20I Cricketer of the Year, ODI Cricketer of the Year, Trial Cricketer of the Year and Most Valuable Cricketer of the Year by a 10-member jury, which includes former international cricketers, broadcasters and members of the media.

Shaheen had a stellar 2021 in all formats. In nine tests, it took 47 wickets and supported eight wickets in six ODIs and 23 wickets in 21 T20Is. His 3-31 match against his Indian rivals at the ICC T20 World Cup made him one of four contenders for the Impactful Performance of the Year award.

Runner Mohammad Rizwan and fast pitcher Hasan Ali also had a year to celebrate, which is now reflected in their nominations.

While wicket keeper / batter Rizwan picked up nominations for impactful performance of the year, T20I cricketer of the year and most valuable cricketer of the year, point guard Hasan has been shortlisted. for Hard-hitting Performance of the Year, Trial Cricketer of the Year and Most Valuable Cricketer of the Year Award.

Captain Babar Azam, middle hitter Fawad Alam and quick pitcher Haris Rauf were shortlisted in two categories each.

Prolific Babar, who won the award for Most Valuable Cricketer of 2020, has been nominated again in this category, while his other nomination is for ODI Cricketer of the Year. Fawad is also making a second successive entry in the Hard-hitting Performance of the Year, while his second nomination is in the Cricket Test of the Year. Haris has been shortlisted for T20I and ODI Cricketer of the Year.

Arshad Iqbal, Azam Khan, Mohammad Wasim Junior and Shahnawaz Dahani were shortlisted for the Emerging Cricketer Award.

Players born on or after August 1, 1998 or having made their international debut during that calendar year or having played at least 15 matches in Cricket Association and HBL PSL events in the 2021 calendar year are eligible. The player (s) once nominated in this category cannot be re-nominated. This means that Haider Ali and Mohammad Huraira, despite impressive performances, were not taken into account as they were shortlisted last year.

Nonetheless, Huraira was grouped together with Asif Afridi, Iftikhar Ahmed, Sahibzada Farhan and Tayyab Tahir for the domestic cricketer of the year award.

Aliya Riaz, who won last year’s Women’s Cricketer of the Year award, has been shortlisted along with Anam Amin, Fatima and Nida Dar.
